David Moyes’ plan to target young and talented British players is a good approach, says former Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer.

West Ham spent big during the summer transfer window on France international Kurt Zouma and Croatian attacker Nikola Vlasic, with the duo joining for a combined £55m fee.

However, going forward, Moyes has made it clear that he also wants to sign talented British youngsters on top of foreign talent. As quoted by football.london, the Hammers boss said: “I want us to be looking for young British talented players.”

And for Palmer, it is a strategy that West Ham could have much success with. On Moyes’ comments, the ex-Leeds United and Southampton told TIF:

“Good approach, good approach, really good approach. But why didn’t he target Tammy Abraham?”

While West Ham were strongly linked with Abraham, in the end, the east London club did not make a move for him before his eventual transfer from Chelsea to AS Roma.

One young British player that the Hammers do currently have on their books is Jarrod Bowen, who has been a success at the Premier League outfit since joining back in 2020.

The 24-year-old was productive for Moyes’ side in the final third last season, coming up with 13 Premier League goal contributions.
