Tottenham Hotspur writer Jack Pitt-Brooke has claimed that Eric Dier is the ‘glue in the Tottenham dressing room’.

So far this season, Spurs have drifted from one extreme to the other. After winning their first three games of the new campaign, they then lost their following three.

The ship has been steadied once more, however, with Tottenham claiming back-to-back wins against Aston Villa and Newcastle United.

One ever-present in the starting lineup for the club this season has been Dier. Indeed, the defender has started all eight of Spurs’ league fixtures up to this point.

While talking about the Englishman on The View from the Lane podcast, Pitt-Brooke has now claimed that behind-the-scenes, Dier is a key figure within the team.

Will Eric Dier and Cristian Romero be a good partnership for Spurs?

He explained how, saying: “He’s so good on intangibles, as they say: leadership, organisation, communication. I think he, more than anyone else, is the kind of glue in the Tottenham dressing room.

“I think he’s not someone who’s just got two or three mates he hangs around with all the time. He’s friends with all the English players, he’s friends with the Spanish-speaking players – Dier himself speaks Spanish.

“Yeah, sometimes he makes bad mistakes, and yeah, he made a pretty clumsy mistake at the end of the game [on Sunday].

“But there’s a lot of upside with Dier that is difficult to detect, but I do think that Tottenham are better off with him in the team than not.”

TIF Thoughts on Eric Dier and Tottenham…

With over 200 league appearances for Spurs under his belt now, it’s easy to see why the 27-year-old could be one of the more confident members in the dressing room.

It is likely that Nuno Espirito Santo will be hoping to find some leaders on and off the pitch at the club, and it looks as if Dier may be that sort of character.

He certainly showed it on the weekend when he did all he could to make sure aid was swiftly given to a member of the St. James’ Park crowd who required medical attention.
