According to Korean outlet Yonhap News, Tottenham winger Son Heung-min has returned a negative Covid-19 test and will now be able to play against Newcastle tomorrow.

After Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold revealed that two unnamed players within the Spurs squad had tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday, the South Korean football governing body revealed on Saturday that they had been trying to verify reports that the men’s national team captain Son had tested positive for COVID-19 during his most recent international duty.

Although the two infected players haven’t been officially identified, Daily Hotspur reported said that Son and Bryan Gil were the two Spurs players who have tested positive.

Son joined the national team on October 5th and played against Syria two days later in the first of two World Cup qualifying matches of the month before flying to Tehran to play Iran on Tuesday before heading back to London.

An official with the Korea Football Association (KFA) said Son had tested negative twice while in Iran, while the official added that the KFA has asked Tottenham whether Son is one of the two unnamed infected players but hasn’t heard from the club.

The KFA had also earlier said South Korea-based players who returned home after the Iran trip all tested negative.
