Ahead of the January transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Napoli and Italian international forward Lorenzo Insigne as Nuno Espirito Santo looks to strengthen his squad.

According to Corriere del Mezzogiorno, a move to Spurs could be on the cards for the Euro 2020 winner amidst his contract standoff with Napoli.

The 30-year-old has been one of Napoli’s most consistent performers over the last decade and has become a key part of the Italian national side under Roberto Mancini, playing a crucial role in the Azzurri’s march to European Championship glory this summer.

The attacker was linked with a move to Tottenham over the summer with reports even suggesting at the time that the north London were the front-runners to land him. Despite staying put at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, speculation over Insigne’s future has not slowed down, with the Lilywhites backed to reignite their interest in the attacker.

The links linking the north London club to the Italian international has subsequently seen Spurs fans take to Twitter.

What did Spurs make of latest transfer update?

“It would be an incredible transfer but I doubt it”

@MadNeRuRM

“We are turning into LW fc bruh, already have 3”
“Another superstar that wants conference league lol”
“Awful player. He would be a typical Spurs signing”
“OMG PLS”
“He plays on LW. We need proper CF and RW”
With Spurs already having Son Heung-min, Steven Bergwijn, Bryan Gil and Lucas Moura as their current attacking wide options, a move for the diminutive Italian forward seems questionable.
However, given Son’s ability to play through the middle and the uncertainty surrounding the future of talisman Harry Kane and the potential to sign Insigne on a free, a move for the Napoli forward could represent excellent business from Daniel Levy.
