A lot of Tottenham Hotspur fans are annoyed on Twitter to read Emerson Royal’s latest comments.

The Brazilian was a deadline day signing from Barcelona, despite only joining the Catalan side earlier this summer, but that did not stop Spurs from splashing out £22.5 million for the right-back and since his arrival, he’s managed to make five appearances.

It’s a difficult time for Emerson to have joined Spurs as they languish outside of the European spots and have been beaten by Arsenal, Chelsea and Crystal Palace in recent weeks, but that’s not stopped the full-back from claiming that Spurs are ‘capable of competing‘ – something that has left fans gutted.

Many Tottenham fans are annoyed on Twitter with Emerson’s comments to the club’s matchday programme (via Football.london).

What have these Spurs fans been saying?

“Who told this poor guy false information?”

@echoBDO

“High up in the bottom half of the table unless we pull out socks up”

@luketomlin

“We fully lied to Emerson to get him to come to the club”

@vade0296

“Lucas sold him a dream”

@ERIKLEREBIRTH

“I’m guessing he’s talking about the conference league table?”

“We sure don’t play like that”

Emerson has gone from featuring in three La Liga games for Barcelona which saw them go unbeaten and pick up seven points and now he’s with Spurs having played three times in the league and are yet to concede less than three in a game.

Japhet Tanganga was the right-back in the early parts of this season before Emerson arrived, however, as soon as the Brazilian was ready, the former moved to a centre-back role, although this did result in a red card against Crystal Palace.
