A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have reacted after seeing Cristian Romero unlocking his inner Erik Lamela while on international duty.

During Argentina’s last international match, the Spurs man helped his side battle to a narrow 1-0 win over Peru, though the World Cup qualifier was not won without some controversy.

A first-half goal from Lautaro Martinez had put Romero and co into the lead, but when Jefferson Farfan was brought down in the box, Peru had a golden opportunity to equalise from the spot.

However, Yoshimar Yotun’s penalty was wasted as he clipped the crossbar. In the aftermath, Romero was seen celebrating wildly, directly in the face of the Peruvian who had just missed the chance to bring his side level.

A clip of the incident was shared online and it soon had many Spurs supporters sharing their thoughts on the matter.

Here’s what these Spurs fans had to say…

“The guy is a winner simple as that. Once he’s settled in he won’t take any prisoners, our defence and midfield will get it if they don’t perform.”

“Well, someone needed to take over from @ErikLamela haha.”

@MessiahKaeto

“Ooooo I smell another Lamela.”

@James_Thacker_

“My cb.”

@Thfc_Oskar

“Love to see it.”

@ajaay10

“Love it.”

It seems that these Tottenham fans can see some similarities between their current and former stars. Indeed, Lamela was well-known for his tendencies to wind up the opposition.

Romero has made a tentative start to his career in north London, starting just two Premier League games. Perhaps he will show more of this kind of spikiness when he gets a regular run of matches.
