Former Spurs winger Erik Lamela has revealed that his favourite period during his eight year spell at the north London Club was spend under former manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentine, 29, left Spurs for Sevilla in the summer after eight years in north London. Now, in an interview with The Times, the winger revealed he felt he enjoyed his best football during Pochettino’s spell in charge at the club after his arrival in 2014 before being dismissed by Daniel Levy in November 2019.

“The era with Pochettino I can say was the best, no?’ Lamela revealed.

“From when Mauricio arrived, the first season maybe wasn’t the best but after that we got better and better. We were always very close to the top of the league, second or third. I enjoyed every season there but to reach the Champions League final (in 2019) was a big success for the club.’

He added: “It was one of the most important games of my life to play this final but I can say nothing because I didn’t play a minute and that’s something I will always have inside me that doesn’t feel good.”

Lamela also stated that Spurs are still a good side with several quality young players but believes they will need time to develop as they are at the start of a fresh project at the club. However, he insisted that Spurs have a squad with great potential and with time they are going to improve.

“They have a very good team, a lot of young players”, Lamela said.

“They changed a lot of the team since I was there and it’s a new project and sometimes new projects need a lot of time, but in football you never have time to build: you always have to win.

“This is the difficult thing. But I believe Tottenham is a great team, with a great squad, a lot of potential and, in the future, is going to be better.”
