Tottenham Hotspur fans have been waxing lyrical after footage emerged of defender Cristian Romero’s superb skill during their midweek Carabao Cup victory against Burnley

The 23-year-old, signed by the Lilywhites on a season-long loan from Serie A side Atalanta this summer, has become one of the first names on the team sheet for Spurs in within recent weeks, forming the first-choice centre-back partnership alongside Eric Dier in Nuno’s Premier League XI.

However, Romero was also in Nuno’s starting XI for the Carabao Cup side against Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday evening and produced an impressive display to help the north London side secure a 1-0 victory, with Lucas Moura’s second half-strike securing their place in the last eight of the competition.

Furthermore, footage has emerged of the Argentine coolly scooping over the ball over pressing Clarets striker Matej Vydra after intercepting a ball intended for the Czech international before threading a pass through to teammate Emerson Royal, capping an excellent display.

What did these Spurs fans make of the video footage?

“Actually in love with this man, one thing Levy and ENIC got right”

@thfcem28

“Rolls Royce Defender…”

@JohnGoliath82

“Say what you want about the managerial search cuz it was a disaster. But three out of four of Fabio’s signings look the deal for me and this guy is exceptional”

@ChiTownSpurs

“This guy is the real deal.”

@HarryHotspurWHL

“Dirtyyyyy”

@SpursShout

“What a player we have”

@THFCHarvey18

Spurs fans are aware of the player’s technical ability to go alongside his physicality but with Nuno gradually easing the Copa America winner into the campaign, Romero has cemented his place in the Tottenham side and is a certainty to be tasked with keeping the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood at bay when they take on out of form Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium on Saturday evening.
