Former Premier League player Carlton Palmer can see Tottenham eventually allowing Harry Winks to leave the club.

The 25-year-old was reportedly on the radar of Aston Villa during the summer transfer window according to the Express & Star but remained a Spurs player beyond the August 31 deadline.

The central midfielder has made just short of 180 appearances for Spurs but has struggled for game time so far this season in the Premier League, as he has started just one of the club’s opening eight league fixtures.

Do you think Harry Winks will leave Tottenham in January?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Whilst wanting first-team football, the Sun have reported that Tottenham will block any attempt from Winks to leave the club on loan in January, with the report suggesting that Everton are one of a number of clubs interested.

Palmer believes common sense will prevail and that Spurs will eventually allow Winks to leave, telling This is Futbol: “Well it’s difficult isn’t it for the player? I mean the player wants to play, so he wants to get out on loan but the clubs down to bare bones. So you know if they let him go then they’re short of a player so obviously the club comes first from their point of view but obviously that’s disappointing for Harry because he’s not getting game time.

“At some point common sense will have to prevail because if he’s not playing, he’s no good to Tottenham anyhow sitting on the bench and not playing. So I think at some point whether they get one or two more players in in January, then common sense will prevail. [Maybe] Tottenham are taking the stance that if he wants to go and he wants to get game time then he goes full time, so in the January transfer window he goes and they get money for him.”

Winks has also got international experience, having represented England from U17s all the way through to the senior team, featuring ten times for the first team.
