Former Tottenham Hotspur player Graham Roberts believes that Lucas Moura is just as good as reported Spurs transfer target Ollie Watkins.

Spanish reports say that Aston Villa forward Watkins is one of the names on the list of options that Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy are looking at.

Watkins signed for Villa in September 2020, with BBC Sport reporting that fee to take him from Brentford to Villa Park was £28m which could rise to £33m with add-ons.

Since joining the Midlands outfit, Watkins has scored 17 goals and provided a further five assists, but Roberts believes that Moura is just as good at Watkins.

“He did well and he works hard for the team. I’m not sure Villa will let him go you know, but he does work hard.

“I’m just not sure where he will play, because I think Moura is as good as him. He’s not better than Moura, maybe he scores a few more goals than Moura, but Moura when he’s on song he’s a handful. All I’d look for is somebody to improve the team or better than what you’re letting go.

“That’s what you have to work around. You have to buy somebody that’s better, not somebody that’s the same because you’re not improving,” Roberts told This is Futbol.

During his time at Tottenham Hotspur so far, Moura has featured in 166 games for the club and has scored 32 goals and provided 20 assists, with his best return coming when he has played out wide on the right wing.

If Tottenham do decide to make a move for Watkins, they could face competition in their pursuit of him, as the Sun reported that rivals Arsenal are targeting the Aston Villa forward and also have Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin on their shortlist.
