Former Tottenham defender Graham Roberts believes James Maddison could do a job at his old side and thinks Nuno Espirito Santo is lacking a creative player like the Leicester City star.

Tottenham did sign Bryan Gil from Sevilla during the summer to improve the team going forward, with the 20-year-old able to play on either flank.

However, Roberts feels they could have done with bringing in someone who can play centrally and create.

The Spurs legend exclusively told TIF: “Maddison at Leicester, he could do it [add creativity]. But you have a look around and there’s not a lot. You know, even Liverpool don’t play with a creative midfielder.”

Maddison, who has previously been compared to David Beckham by former Leicester striker Tony Cottee, has struggled for form of late, but was also reportedly wanted by former boss Mauricio Pochettino to replace Christian Eriksen back in 2019.

The £45m-rated 24-year-old is yet to score or register an assist this season, while he also struggled to produce in the final third at the end of the last campaign.

Still, Maddison is a quality player, coming up with 13 goal contributions in the Premier League overall last term, so perhaps he could bring a spark to this Spurs side when on song – something for Nuno to maybe think about going into the January transfer window.
