A score of Newcastle United fans have taken to Twitter to react to claims that Steve Bruce is set to receive a hefty pay-out of £8m if he is to be sacked by Newcastle’s new owners.

According to reports from The Daily Mirror, the former Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday manager is set to be axed at Newcastle as the club looks to set the tone for a new era.

Following the completion of a consortium takeover spearheaded by PCP Capital Partners, Newcastle have been tipped for wide-sweeping changes on and off the pitch following comments coming out of the new Magpies board.

Amanda Staveley, who fronted the successful takeover consortium, has spoken publicly of the long-term ambition for Newcastle to compete for major honours – fuelling speculation of a major managerial shake-up at St James’ Park.

Separately, a report in The Daily Telegraph has declared that the Tyneside tactician will be owed a lump payoff of £8m  in compensation if he is sacked.

With Bruce reportedly set to collect a tidy bonus if he is let go prematurely by the Newcastle board, many Newcastle fans were quick to have their say on the news.

What have some Newcastle fans been saying?

“He could buy Sunderland for that. Win win for all.”

@jaiboy87

“That’s over two million kebabs… happy days”

@richardadamguy

“That’s like winning the lottery for the rest of us.”

@Harpindergill8

“Why do you think he’s not walked”

@db2682

“Jokes on Bruce, the fans would have raised £10 million and give it him to leave at the beginning of the season …”

@Dawes1989

“We asked you to perform miracles with nothing but now that we can build a competitive team you’re free to leave. Classy.

@AkulFred

Clearly, the fee represents a significant chunk of the club’s coffers being lost merely to satisfy Bruce’s camp, much to the disgruntlement of fans.

Still, the takeover is backed by a wealth of gargantuan funds that makes the sum look miniscule. It has likely been a cost that has been planned for, and is the price that must be paid for a new era.
