A host of Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to react to the official team news ahead of the Magpies’ 4:30pm clash with Spurs in the Premier League.

Steve Bruce has named a back four consisting of Manquillo, Lascelles, Clark and Ritchie, who all start ahead of the returning Karl Darlow in goal.

In the heart of the midfield, Newcastle will look to Isaac Hayden and Sean Longstaff to enforce and dictate play, with Joe Willock coming in to act as a playmaker to the Mags’ forward options.

Up top, Callum Wilson returns from injury supported by Joelinton and enigmatic playmaker Allan Saint-Maximin.

What have some Newcastle fans been saying?

“No Almiron? Is Hayden in a back 5? Fernandez arguably our best cb isn’t playing. What is this.”

@Joe_NUFC_

“He needs to go based solely on his utter disrespect to Schär this season.”

@SavMondo

“Was expecting Shearer and Ferdinand up front. Disappointed.”

@ToonPolls

“I worry about that central defence like”

@MarkByersVIII

“Hang on where’s Mbappe?!”

@mdance1990

“Come on lads, do us proud”

@DanMcmahonF1

“This is the exact reason why he shouldn’t be here decisions like this and he wants to start Clark haha”

@Adoptedgeordie3

Fans were enamoured with parts the line-up and were optimistic – if a little confused at times –  ahead of their home clash.

There’s an eclectic mix of criticism, humour, concern and hope – perhaps neatly summarising the wide spectrum of fan emotion at the moment.

Only the full-time whistle, for today, will tell whether the short-term mood can lift.
