Plenty of Newcastle United fans have flocked to social media to discuss the use of Callum Wilson against Chelsea following an appearance at home again at St James’ Park.

The former Bournemouth man drew plenty of attention as the ex-Cherry continued to step up and lead the best offensive efforts against Chelsea, but the league leaders ultimately came out on top and secured a comfortable 3-0 win over a toothless Toon side.

Many fans flocked to Twitter as they revisited what Wilson adds to this Newcastle side, with many quick to praise his quality despite Newcastle’s ultimate loss to the league leaders.

What have some Newcastle fans been saying?

“We could have played Messi & Ronaldo instead of [Saint-Maximin and Wilson] yesterday and it would have made no difference. They had impossible roles in a terrible Jones gameplan.”

@NUFC07102021

“He is so aware of the game around him & I feel he keeps us in games with his presence. He was trying to protect allan & it was that teamwork that impressed me again. Keep them both fit & get dubs back we will then see a canny difference. We wont go doon we are getting better”

@Toonymctoonface

“Hard to rate Wilson as he was left all alone by poor negative tactics. He deserved much Better

@wakelam1973

“This squad would struggle in the Championship. If Callum Wilson gets injured again, we’re done for.”

@GJ_1892

“The more I watch, the more I realise the only players, that are on the pitch, worth keeping, are ASM and Wilson.”

@YorkshireToon

“Heart goes out to Callum Wilson mind only time we’ve picked the ball up in midfield is from him that’s how far he’s having to drop back”

@RoryBull2505

Evidently, many fans hold a special place in their hearts for Wilson and see him more as an unfortunate victim of negative tactics.

There is a feeling the best is yet to come from the experienced striker this season and there will be hopes he can help to pull Newcastle away from the relegation zone.
