Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on his latest YouTube video about all things relating to Newcastle United.

Since confirming the club had been taken over by the Saudi Arabian-based PIF consortium, the Toon have been linked with a host of players ahead of the January window.

One of the players to have their name linked with the Tyneside club has been Barcelona and former Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho.

Reports coming out of Spain have suggested the Toon have three priority targets on their shortlist, with one of those being the Brazilian midfielder.

Speaking about the situation between the Premier League side and the former Liverpool playmaker, Romano had the following to say about any potential discussions between the two camps.

“Coutinho – a lot of rumours, but Coutinho’s camp have not received any proposal or approach from Newcastle yet. Let’s see what is going to happen like in December, in January, when the transfer market will be in the key period.

“But for sure, Newcastle are starting something incredible for the future of the club.”

TIF Thoughts on Coutinho to Newcastle…

Coutinho is yet to play a full 90 minutes in La Liga this season having sat out the opening three games of the 2021/22 campaign (via Transfermarkt).

Across his six appearances this season, the Brazilian is yet to find the back of the net or provide an assist, so if the interest from Newcastle is true, then the Magpies will be hoping his form improves come January.

With the Newcastle owners having big aspirations for the future, we think a signing of Coutinho’s calibre could be a great start for the club’s growth.

For a club that is looking to make a major step forward from battling relegation to battling at the top of the league, we believe Coutinho’s experience gained at some of the world’s biggest clubs could be incredibly beneficial.
