Noted journalist Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Brendan Rodgers following claims that he could have been about to take over at Newcastle United.

There has been some speculation recently suggesting that Rodgers could be set to depart from the King Power Stadium and replace Steve Bruce at Newcastle United following their recent takeover.

After the work that Rodgers has done with Leicester City in recent years, it’s understandable why the Newcastle owners might want to bring someone like him on board in an attempt to recreate the magic that he has brought to the east Midlands.

However, speaking on the latest edition of the Here We Go podcast, Romano clarified that the Northern Irishman had no intention of leaving his current position at this moment in time as he wants to carry on with the ‘project’ that is going on at Leicester:

“Brendan Rodgers had the possibility with Newcastle, many rumours, but he’s never been planning to leave Leicester. He wants to stay; he wants to be part of this project. He loves the club atmosphere and so Brendan Rodgers is staying at Leicester.”

TIF Thoughts on Fabrizio Romano’s comments about Brendan Rodgers and Newcastle United…

Would you take Brendan Rodgers at Newcastle?

Whilst Rodgers might be determined to see things through at Leicester for the time being, it will be interesting to see whether or not that will be the case moving forward, especially if Newcastle United are able to achieve the ambitions that their owners have set out.

Leicester have fallen short of qualifying for the Champions League in the past two seasons, and after a rough start to the season, it will be a challenge to get them there by the time May rolls around. And if Newcastle are able to reach the Champions League quicker than the Foxes, then it might just turn Rodgers’ head and he might want to consider whether or not the grass might be greener up in the North East instead.

So if the club are intent on grabbing Rodgers at some point in the future and think that he is the man to take them forward, then they need to get ahead of Leicester as soon as possible to make themselves as attractive a team as they can to try and entice him away.
