Football journalist Andrew Musgrove has claimed Joelinton’s ‘touch was all over the place’ in Newcastle United’s most recent outing.

Over the weekend, the Magpies fell to a disheartening 3-2 loss against Tottenham Hotspur at St. James’ Park.

Despite taking an early lead in the match, Newcastle struggled to cause much of a threat to their opposition for the rest of the game. They managed just one shot on target throughout the match, with a late own goal by Eric Dier flattering to deceive.

Will Joelinton still be at Newcastle next season?

Picking up a yellow card and doing little else of note, Joelinton did not escape blame for his role in the result. While appearing to bemoan Newcastle’s forward options when speaking on the Everything is Black and White podcast, Musgrove certainly made clear his criticism for the Brazilian striker.

He said: “You’ve got Joelinton, who, unfortunately, today really couldn’t trap a bag of cement. His touch was all over the place, he kept giving the ball away.”

TIF Thoughts on Joelinton and Newcastle…

Joelinton has struggled to really convince many of his quality during his time on Tyneside – his £40m transfer fee probably doing him no favours when it comes to tempering expectations.

Still, so far this season, he has scored no goals and provided no assists in eight league appearances. With just six goals in 77 outings in his entire Premier League career, it’s hard to see him turning that form around any time soon.

With Newcastle really in need of a good win, it would have likely disappointed many fans to see the Brazilian forward fail to even do the basics for their club.
