A score of Newcastle United fans have taken to Twitter to react to the largely anonymous performance of winger Allan Saint-Maximin.

Newcastle kicked off the post-Steve Bruce era with a trip to south London that ended in an ultimate stalemate in which the enigmatic trickster failed to have a real impact.

Cutting a frustrated figure, the winger was hauled off on the 81st minute for misfiring striker Joelinton and did little in terms of direct contributions in front of goal.

Where will Newcastle United finish in the Premier League this season?

Many Newcastle fans were let down by the attacker as they took to social media to over their thoughts on him.

What have some Newcastle fans been saying?

“ASM, was a waste of time today. His head wasn’t there, which is a shame cos he is a fantastic player on his day.”

@NitramyesnahH

“I probably gave in to that reflex myself, but I thought he played well when he came on tbf. Saint Maximin didn’t have a good game, and at least he wasn’t coming on for Wilson to play up front on his own this time”

@Bocafuente

“he did nowt today”

@D6Ghex

“You didn’t seem yourself today. Is everything ok?”

@Nufc_Aidan, tagging Saint-Maximin

“Improved?? U gotta be kidding. We cant even hold the ball more than 3 sec.  [Saint-maximin had the] worst performance ever.”

@NUFCAsia

“He goes missing quite a lot. He gets all the praise for his running, but when he gets too hard and loses the ball, his head hangs. I think he needs a team mate similar to his style to connect with.”

Newcastle are now winless in nine games and are looking for inspiration.

A winger bereft of confidence certainly didn’t help Newcastle yesterday, and fans will know all-too well how his flair and movement can transform games.
