Former Premier League striker Dean Windass doesn’t rule out Newcastle United going after Raheem Sterling.

Speaking at the Financial Times’ Business of Sport US Summit, Sterling said: “If there was an opportunity to go somewhere else, I’d be open to it at this moment in time,” before revealing he would prefer a move abroad to either France or Spain.

Do you think Raheem Sterling will leave Manchester City in January?

No

Whilst looking at a possible move abroad, Windass doesn’t rule out Newcastle making a move for £81m-rated Sterling, telling This is Futbol: “I watched Raheem Sterling last week. Would he be a fit for Newcastle? Top players like that… he came out last week and said I want to play football. Players want to play. Doesn’t matter how much money you’re on, players want to play football.

“The money that Newcastle have now, they can go out and buy anybody.”

Since signing for City from Liverpool, Sterling has scored 115 goals and provided 90 assists for the Cityzens in all competitions and has offered plenty of versatility as he has operated off both wings, as well as an attacking midfielder and also a striker.

After revealing he is open to a move abroad, Spanish outlet Sport reported that FC Barcelona were trying to sign Sterling during the last week of the summer transfer window on loan from Manchester City and that there is still a chance to sign in him the January transfer window.

Since the takeover of Newcastle, there has been reports that they will have £190m to spend in the January transfer window, but the Telegraph reported that the Magpies will look to spend a fraction of that, as they have a planned budget of £50m.
