Newcastle United will want a manager like Antonio Conte after their takeover, former striker Nigel Jemson has told This Is Futbol.

A Saudi Arabian-backed £305m takeover of the club was completed on Thursday and the ex-Nottingham Forest star expects the new regime to target a big-name manager at some point.

Steve Bruce remains at the helm as things stand, but the current Newcastle boss has acknowledged that he could be sacked, recently discussing the subject with The Telegraph.

Can Newcastle attract Conte?

It remains to be seen if Newcastle have the pull to attract someone like Conte, who is currently out of work, now. But he is a name Jemson imagines the Magpies will be looking at.

“When these billionaires come in, they want a name. They want a big manager,” Jemson said to TIF. “Now, without being disrespectful to Steve Bruce, they’re going to be looking at people like Conte.

“They want to excite the fans and give them what money can buy, so it’s going to be interesting. There’s certainly going to be a buzz around the place now.”

Speaking to the Daily Mail on the Newcastle takeover, co-owner Amanda Staveley stated the club’s ambition to be like Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, so it would hardly be a surprise if they targeted a title-winning manager like Conte.

And even if they do not end up with the Italian, Newcastle supporters will surely love just hearing talk about a world-class coach joining their club, with such talk likely to have them visualising future success.
