Former Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer isn’t a fan of Luke Shaw and doesn’t see how he is a Manchester United player.

The 26-year-old full-back was named the Players’ Player of the Year for his performances for the Red Devils in the 2020/2021 campaign and whilst he has been at Old Trafford has helped the team to win the UEFA Europa League, League Cup and Community Shield.

Will Manchester United win any silverware this season?

During his time with Manchester United, Shaw has made just shy of 200 appearances in all competitions, but when quizzed about the former Southampton man, Palmer told TIF:

“I’ve never been a fan of Shaw’s from day one. I don’t see how he’s a Man United player. At the end of the day, yeah, there’s very little the manager can do about that [individual mistakes].”

Following that recent hammering to Liverpool, Shaw spoke to Stadium Astro and was critical of his own performance, saying: “I am accountable for my performance, it wasn’t good enough. I am not here to speak about the team, we know we can be better but for me I also need to be better than I was today.”

After a summer which saw Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Tom Heaton all arrive at Old Trafford, there was a sense of optimism that the Red Devils could challenge for silverware this season and whilst it’s still early on in the campaign, United are going to have to put a good run of results together to compete for major honours.
