Speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol, former Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer has no doubt that Jadon Sancho will be a success at Manchester United.

Having arrived from Borussia Dortmund for £73m during the summer transfer window, much has been expected of Sancho.

However, the 21-year-old has not set the world alight, failing to score or provide an assist in his first five league fixtures.

Is the Sancho criticism unfair?

Absolutely

Absolutely

No, it's warranted

Despite it being early days, Sancho’s performances have drawn criticism, including from United legend Paul Ince, who wants to see the England international vary his game.

Palmer, though, believes Sancho deserves some leeway having just arrived at the club and is backing the former Dortmund winger to eventually deliver.

“He’s a young lad. It’s a very unfair criticism,” the ex-Leeds United and Southampton player said. “I think that’s unfair on the young kid. He’s a young lad and he needs time to settle.

“There is no doubt he’s a huge talent and there’s no doubt he’s going to be successful at Manchester United, but unfortunately what comes with the huge price tag is huge expectations.”

When you look at his record at Dortmund – scored 17 goals and provided 16 assists in the 2019/20 season – it is hard to imagine Sancho not being a success at Old Trafford. Simply put, a bit of patience is required.
