Former professional footballer Carlton Palmer believes that Jurgen Klopp would be interested in taking Raheem Sterling back to Liverpool but can’t see Manchester City selling him to a direct title rival.

Sterling made the switch to the Cityzens from Liverpool in 2015 in a deal worth around £49m, as per BBC Sport.

Recently in an interview at a Financial Times Business of Sport US Summit, Sterling said: “If there was an opportunity to go somewhere else, I’d be open to it at this moment in time,” with the outlet also stating that he would prefer a move abroad to a club in France or Spain.

Do you think Raheem Sterling will leave Manchester City this season?

No

According to Fichajes, Liverpool want £81m-rated Sterling to return to Anfield, but Palmer can’t see Manchester City selling to a title rival.

“No chance, not a prayer, not after the way he left. I mean would Jurgen Klopp be interested in taking Raheem Sterling? Of course, I think he would be. You never say never in football, I mean that would be a great bit of business, but would Man City sell Raheem Sterling back to Liverpool when Liverpool are going to be their rivals for the Premier League title? I don’t think that’s ever going to happen,” Palmer told TIF.

Sterling was productive last season for City, as he scored 14 goals and registered 12 assists in all competitions for the team, before taking that proficiency into Euro 2020. He started all seven games for the Three Lions, scoring three goals and providing one assist.

Sport also reported that Barcelona were interested in taking Sterling on loan at the end of August and with him open to a move abroad, if Liverpool do want to sign him then they may soon have to register official interest.
