Leeds United fans have been reacting to comments made by journalist Beren Cross about the future of Jamie Shackleton.

Despite having made 69 appearances for the club, scoring two goals and chipping in with two assists in the process, the 21-year-old has never been what you would call a regular in the Leeds United side, only starting 22 of those games since the start of the 2018/19 season.

And when you feature that little, it’s natural that talks might happen about potential opportunities away from the club. Phil Hay in The Athletic claimed in the summer that Championship side AFC Bournemouth among others were showing an interest in him.

Can you remember where Leeds finished in these league seasons? First up: 2018/19

Speaking about his future during a Q&A for Leeds Live when asked whether or not he would likely head out on loan during the upcoming January window, Cross replied: “Shackleton has played the equivalent of four full matches in the eight games Leeds have had this term. If that ratio drops off a cliff between now and January they may review his situation, but, let’s be honest, they don’t really have the squad depth to deal with Shackleton going out too.”

These comments were relayed to fans on the Leeds Insider Facebook page (via MOTLeedsNews), where they agreed that he shouldn’t be allowed to leave in the window:

Do you think Jamie Shackleton has a bright future with Leeds United?

No, he's not that good

No, he's not that good

Yes, he's a solid player

Yes, he's a solid player

If Cross is right with his assessment, hopefully this means that Shackleton is going to be seeing more minutes going forward. Having only appeared in four Premier League games so far this season, three of which were as a substitute, if they aren’t going to significantly increase his usage, then he’s not really doing much for his development.
