Lots of Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the latest announcement to emerge ahead of their return to Premier League football on the weekend.
The Whites travel south on Saturday as they face Southampton, and it has been announced that referee David Coote will officiate the game, with Lee Mason acting as VAR.
Will Leeds beat the Saints on Saturday?
Yes
No
Coote has officiated 16 Leeds games over the course of his career, with eight of them ending in victory for the Whites and seven being defeats (via Transfermarkt).
Mason’s last outing was as the VAR for Simon Hooper in Leeds’ 1-0 victory against Watford, which saw the controversial denial of a penalty on Daniel James after William Troost-Ekong’s challenge.
Leeds fans took to Twitter to vent their fury at the announcement to emerge ahead of their game against Ralph Hasenhuttl’s Saints.
What did these Leeds fans have to say?
“Oh god not Coote! Absolutely awful and let’s teams get away with scandalous amounts of time wasting…that’s bigger bad news than who VAR is”
Mason retired from on-field action at the end of last season, however, during his refereeing career, he officiated 15 Leeds games in which the Whites won seven, drew four and lost four (via Transfermarkt).
Despite coming into the game on the back of their first league win of the season, it seems these fans are far from pleased with the appointments for this weekend’s trip to the south coast.
