Leeds United writer Conor McGilligan has called for Crysencio Summerville to make an unexpected impact against Southampton this weekend.

With key man Raphinha looking unlikely to start in Leeds’ next Premier League game due to his commitments with the Brazilian national team, there could be a spot to fill in Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

While discussing the options on his YouTube channel, McGilligan named Summerville as one player the Saints ‘wouldn’t expect’ to see.

He also added that if the teen does play, he wants him to be more direct than he has been for the senior team – as when he runs at defenders at youth level, he is ‘absolutely outrageous’.

Where will Leeds finish in this season's Premier League?

The journalist explained: “What I want to see Crysencio do is directly go at the full-back, because when he does it – as we saw against Sunderland the other day for the Under-23s – [he is] absolutely outrageous. You can’t control him.

“And this is something he’s honed as well in the Netherlands. So I’d love to see that from Crysencio if he was to come in.

“Another wildcard, there we go, someone who Southampton wouldn’t expect.”

TIF Thoughts on Crysencio Summerville and Leeds…

The 19-year-old did make his league debut earlier this season against Newcastle United and played the following week against West Ham United (though only for one minute). So his inclusion would not be a complete shock.

Who was Bielsa's first competitive game as Leeds manager against?

The teenager has certainly shown his talent at youth level, as McGilligan references. If Summerville can bring that standard of performance to the senior team, he could be set to feature on a more regular basis in Bielsa’s side.

Perhaps the winger will get another chance to prove himself in the match against Southampton on the weekend. If he does, he’d be wise to follow McGilligan’s advice.
