Former Leeds United player Carlton Palmer believes that players going on international duty is a new problem for the club but comes with doing well.

Leeds saw a number of players go on international duty during the break and represent their countries.

Prior to the international break, Leeds got their first victory of the Premier League campaign on the board as they defeated Watford 1-0, which moved them on to six points from their opening seven games.

Palmer believes that players going on international duty is a new problem for the club, telling This is Futbol: “The problem that Leeds have now which they didn’t have before is, because they’re doing well, they’ve got players playing for their countries, getting called up to the international scene.

“So, therefore where they would have a rest in the international break, these players are now playing a lot of football, which does have a knock-on effect for their league form as well, but I fully expect Leeds to pick up and pick up results.

“I watched them against Liverpool and to go toe-to-toe against Liverpool with the way that they play, Bielsa plays the same kind of system to Liverpool, they weren’t far off – a lot of teams will come unstuck playing against Leeds United.”

After getting their first victory of the Premier League season on the board, Leeds will be looking to go on a run of good form now and prior to coming up against the Whites earlier in the season, West Ham manager David Moyes was full of praise for Marcelo Bielsa.

“His teams have always had incredible energy, man-to-man marking in all areas of the pitch, but I think they’re more than that: they’re a really good long passing team, and for that, the manager deserves a lot of credit. He does great work with them and has done great work with Leeds United,” Moyes told football.london.
