Former Leeds United player Carlton Palmer believes you can “never say never” with rumours linking manager Marcelo Bielsa with a move to Barcelona but doesn’t think it’s likely this season.

According to Cuatro (via Sports Witness), the Leeds United manager is on a shortlist should Barcelona decide to part company with current manager Ronald Koeman.

Bielsa only put pen to paper on a new contract at Elland Road in August and whilst he isn’t ruling anything out, Palmer doesn’t think the Argentine will depart Leeds this season.

Will Bielsa stay with Leeds United?

“Well, like I say, you can never say never, but there’s always going to be rumours. If you’re a manager that’s done well or if you’re a player that’s doing well, there’ll be rumours about you.

“I think Bielsa is one of those people. He seems a pretty straight up, straight down type of guy. He’s committed to Leeds for another season and he works from season to season. I think unless something drastically happens in terms of his arrangements with the hierarchy at Leeds in terms of recruitment and bringing players in and being able to do the job the way he wants to, I see Bielsa staying at Leeds for another season at least,” Palmer told This is Futbol.

Since being in charge at Elland Road, Bielsa has overseen a promotion from the Championship to the Premier League and then led Leeds to a top ten finish last season in their first campaign back in the top flight.

After a terrific campaign last term, Leeds saw Tyler Roberts, Stuart Dallas, Illan Meslier, and Patrick Bamford all put pen to paper on new contracts at Elland Road, with Bielsa also strengthening his squad with the signings of Dan James, Junior Firpo, Jack Harrison, Kristoffer Klaesson and Lewis Bate.
