Former Leeds United player Carlton Palmer believes that it would cost the Whites £30m-£40mto sign an alternative to Patrick Bamford in January.

The 28-year-old was in brilliant form last season for Leeds and scored 17 goals in the Premier League, which saw him finish joint fourth in the goal scorer charts alongside Son Heung-min of Tottenham.

The forward has registered one goal and three assists in all competitions for Leeds this season so far but has missed the last four of Leeds’ top flight matches through injury.

Do you think Leeds United will target another striker in January?

Palmer believes that if the club are to add someone of Bamford’s quality in January, it will set Leeds back £30m-£40m, telling TIF: “I felt last season they needed another centre-forward of his ilk, of his type and they didn’t do that, and I think they are still in the hunt for one.

“Strikers are not cheap and if you’re talking of somebody of Patrick’s quality and Patrick’s work rate, you’re up into £30m-£40m for that type of player. They spent big on Dan James, so whether they’ve got that money to spend big again this season, I don’t know.”

Leeds are yet to find their form from last season which saw them finish in the top ten, as they have collected just seven points from their opening nine Premier League matches of the campaign.

Leeds come up against Norwich City this weekend who find themselves at the bottom of the league table and without a win so far in the league – Leeds will be hoping to go two games unbeaten following last weekend’s 1-1 draw against Wolves.
