Former Leeds United player David Norris believes that the club will possibly look to strengthen in central midfield in January.

Marcelo Bielsa made additions to his squad during the summer transfer window, making five permanent signings, as Dan James, Jack Harrison, Junior Firpo, Lewis Bate and Kristoffer Klaesson all put pen-to-paper on deals at Elland Road.

Will Leeds look to strengthen their midfield in January?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Norris believes that the club will look to strengthen in the middle of the pitch in the January transfer window, telling TIF: “I’d expect Leeds to possibly strengthen that or cover that position a little bit more in January and we might see him [Lewis Bate] towards the end of the season should Leeds be safe rather than him being chucked in.”

Leeds were targeting Huddersfield Town central midfielder Lewis O’Brien during the summer and according to Football Insider the Whites made multiple offers to the Terriers to try and bring him to Elland Road.

Shortly after the summer transfer window shut, O’Brien signed a new and improved deal at the John Smith’s Stadium until the summer of 2025.

If Bielsa does give Lewis Bate his opportunity in the first-team at Elland Road, whilst he is mainly a central midfielder, he can play as a defensive midfielder, as well as further forward as an attacking midfielder, where he has has featured for the Leeds United U23 squad in Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy this campaign.
