It makes it no surprise that want to hand Phillips a new contract and ward off any interest. And if the club manage to get the 25-year-old to put pen to paper on an extension, Palmer has no doubt that Bielsa will be delighted.

“I think Bielsa will be totally delighted,” the ex- star told TIF. “But also for Phillips, what players have to understand is yeah, of course, we’ve all got ambitions to play at the biggest clubs, we’ve all got ambitions to win trophies and do stuff like that.

“But he’s had the best year of his career in the League and playing for and the manager’s getting the best out of him. Why would you want to upset that apple cart? Get your contract signed and carry on doing what you’re doing.”

Phillips has been linked with a move to Manchester United, with the Daily Star claiming that the Red Devils have cooled their interest in Declan Rice and turned their attention to the player, so things could get interesting.
