Top teams will be looking at Kalvin Phillips, says former Leeds United midfielder Carlton Palmer.

Phil Hay recently wrote on The Athletic that he feels it is only a matter of time before someone bids for the 25-year-old.

Phillips has been a revelation for Leeds. Last season, no outfield player in Marcelo Bielsa’s squad averaged more long balls per game than the midfielder (via WhoScored) as he showcased his passing range at the top level.

He has also starred for England, helping his country to reach the Euro 2020 final before going on to win England Player of the Year for 2021.

On the Three Lions star, Palmer told TIF:

“Listen, he’s had a phenomenal two or three seasons, hasn’t he? So when you do well like he’s done – now a regular in the England team, not just the squad, in the team – your top teams are going to be looking at Kalvin both at home and abroad.

“But I’m 100% confident that Kalvin will sign a new contract at Leeds United. I think he’s at home there, I think he gets on well with Bielsa and he’s loved by supporters.”

Manchester United are the latest team to be linked with Phillips, with the Daily Star reporting last month that the Red Devils have turned to the Leeds man after cooling their interest in West Ham’s Declan Rice.

Signing a defensive midfielder like Phillips is thought to be a priority for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
