Speaking on The Phil Hay Show, the journalist himself has revealed that Marcelo Bielsa was visibly frustrated with Tyler Roberts’ performance against Arsenal on Tuesday.

Roberts joined Leeds back when they were in the Championship from West Brom for a small transfer fee of £2.57 million but three years on, the attacker has failed to ever cement a regular starting spot under Bielsa at Elland Road.

Should Leeds sell Tyler Roberts?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Last season, Roberts was handed 14 starts in the Premier League but did very little to convince fans or Bielsa that he deserved more regular appearances this term and that’s been backed up by Bielsa’s decision to only start him once in the league thus far, despite their injuries.

Hay has been speaking about why Bielsa was frustrated at Tyler Roberts.

(21:09) “I think with something like Tyler Roberts, there’s a definite issue there, there’s no question at all that it’s not working with Roberts. It feels like a long time since he made a meaningful impact and I could see Bielsa last night [Against Arsenal] unless I was reading this wrong, it seemed as if he was getting frustrated with some of Roberts’ hold up play.

“The decision I thought to bring Gelhardt on made perfect sense and could possibly have come a little bit earlier.”

TIF Thoughts on Roberts…

The Welsh international is still just 22-years old but given how many opportunities he has been handed by Bielsa, despite him having an array of talent in the final third, it may be that his time is slowly coming to an end at Elland Road.

It’s not as if the attacker is short of options as Newcastle United were interested in him over the summer, this is despite his poor numbers in front of goal in the Premier League, although that particular link could be a thing of the past given the Magpies new owners.
