Everton manager Rafael Benitez loves Andros Townsend, says former Premier League forward Dean Windass.

Townsend joined Everton from Crystal Palace during the summer on a free transfer, making it his second time working under Benitez.

The two previously worked together at Newcastle when Benitez was Magpies boss, and the 30-year-old clearly left a lasting impression on the Spaniard.

Is Townsend perfect for Rafa's style?

Townsend has made a strong start to life as an Everton player, coming up with five goal contributions in eight league games.

From what Windass can see, Benitez loves Townsend and vice versa. On the Everton pair, the ex-Hull City man said to TIF:

“Andros Townsend, you see him speaking and you can see he loves his football. You can see the manager loves him, you can see he loves the manager and you can see he loves playing at Goodison.”

On a free transfer, Townsend really is proving to be one of the deals of the summer. He really has been effective in the final third, grabbing that all-important equaliser against Manchester United just before the international break.

Experienced, a free transfer and someone he has worked with before, you can see the logic behind Benitez’s decision to bring him to Goodison.
