Full of praise for his start to the new campaign, Palmer believes that Townsend is underrated, telling This is Futbol: “I think he done really well at Crystal Palace as well and I think he’s an underrated player.

“I think he does well, I think Rafa’s put him in a position that he enjoys, where he’s given more of an attacking role because he is an attacking player and I think he could score more goals and I think Rafa wants him to score more goals and get into areas where he could score more goals, where he could be more dangerous. But he’s had a fantastic start to the season.”

Townsend has plenty of Premier League experience having played 250 games in the top flight of English football for Tottenham Hotspur, Queens Park Rangers, Newcastle United, Crystal Palace and now Everton.

Throughout his career, Townsend has made over 400 career appearances in total, scoring 53 goals and registering 75 assists and links back up with manager Rafa Benitez at Goodison Park, whom he played under at Newcastle.
