Dave Prentice has been speaking on the Royal Blue podcast about Salomon Rondon and his performances since arriving at Goodison Park.

Rondon was brought to Goodison Park on deadline day over the summer, potentially not expecting to play much football given that Rafa Benitez could already call upon Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, but the two of them picked up injuries and that has thrust the Venezuelan into the starting line-up for the last five league games.

Should Everton sell Tom Davies?

No!

Everton’s top scorer this season is winger Demarai Gray with three goals, whereas Rondon, who has played through the middle is yet to find the back of the net and more worryingly, he’s only mustered up one shot on target in the six appearances this season.

Prentice highlighted the biggest worries about Rondon’s performances.

(19:14) “He’s started six games now and came on as a sub against Burnley so you should be expecting to see some degree of match sharpness now. The big worry for me is he doesn’t really influence the game and you missed him against West Ham, but believe me on Saturday he actually did a little bit more than he had done against West Ham even despite being anonymous.

“He won a couple of balls in the air, he went down the left-hand side and pinged a cross across the box where you probably expect him to be on the end of rather than supplying but that was it really.

“The big worry is though he doesn’t get shots at goal, I can’t really think of many, did he have one in the first half from like outside the box that wasn’t really a shot that you know, you couldn’t really count is it an effort on goal? That was the only attempt at you know trying to trouble the goalkeeper.”

TIF Thoughts on Rondon…

If your striker is not scoring, that’s one thing and it could be down to chances not being created or being slightly out of form. However, only having one strike on target in six appearances should be more than alarming for Rondon and Benitez, especially given that the Spaniard managed to get the striker producing his best football in front of goal in the Premier League during their time together at Newcastle United.

Fortunately for both Benitez and Everton fans, Rondon may not be starting for much longer given that Richarlison is back and already on the scoresheet after netting just three minutes into his return on Saturday with his goal briefly putting the Toffees ahead against Watford, his former club.
