Newcastle United could be appealing to Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha following the club’s recent takeover, says former Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer.
This comes after ex-England striker Darren Bent suggested that the Magpies should make a move for Zaha once they get started in the transfer window.
Newcastle have funds in the bank after Public Investment Fund (PIF), PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media’s takeover of the Tyneside outfit.
Can you see Zaha joining Newcastle?
Yes
No chance!
Speaking exclusively to TIF on Zaha’s future, Palmer said:
“What are Palace going to do? They take a lot of players on loan. What is the future for Crystal Palace?
“With Newcastle now, the future is going to be a big one with the takeover and the money. And Newcastle is a massive club and well supported, no disrespect to Crystal Palace. Zaha, his ability is unquestionable.”
After initially reporting that Newcastle have up to £190m to spend in January, The Telegraph have claimed that the new regime at St James’ Park are likely to spend just £50m of that £190m.
If they did become interested in Zaha, you would imagine that they would be reluctant to spend too much on the 28-year-old, with there a need to strengthen multiple areas of the squad – good news for Palace.
Newcastle, of course, currently sit in the relegation zone after taking just three points from eight games.
