Aston Villa have a task on their hands keeping Emiliano Martinez at the club, says Express & Star journalist Luke Hatfield.

Martinez joined Villa from Arsenal last year and the 29-year-old goalkeeper has been a revelation ever since.

Last season, he kept 15 clean sheets in the Premier League, one behind Chelsea’s man of the moment Edouard Mendy and four behind Manchester City star Ederson, who went on to claim the Golden Glove award that campaign.

Is Martinez the best goalkeeper in the PL?

Ultimately, in a short space of time, Martinez has quickly become one of the best shot-stoppers in English football’s top flight. And Hatfield is not expecting that to go unnoticed.

“The thing for Villa is how do you keep hold of a player who’s obviously right at the top of his game and wouldn’t be out of place in one of the biggest clubs in world football at this point?” the Aston Villa reporter said in a chat with TIF. “That’s the task that they’ve got on their hands.”

Fortunately for Villa, the top teams in the country all look sorted in goal, with City, Chelsea and Liverpool probably possessing the three best ‘keepers in the division.

Atletico Madrid, however, have been linked with a move for Martinez, so Villa may not exactly be home and dry.
