Former Premier League footballer Carlton Palmer says Dean Smith will be frustrated with Leon Bailey’s injury.

Bailey has been ruled out for at least three weeks according to BBC Sport with a thigh strain which he picked up in the club’s 3-0 victory over Everton.

The 24-year-old has featured three times for Aston Villa in the Premier League this season, scoring and setting up another goal, with BBC Sport reporting, Villa are hoping that Bailey will return for the game against Wolves on 16 October.

“Yeah, it’s frustrating,” Palmer said to This is Futbol when discussing how Smith will be feeling about Bailey’s injury. “But it happens, its football, you sign players, injuries are part of the game and it is frustrating, and it is disappointing but that’s just part of the game, you just have to hopefully get him back as quickly as you can.”

Bailey was one of five signings manager Dean Smith made during the summer, with Ashley Young, Axel Tuanzebe, Emi Buendia and Danny Ings also signing deals at Villa Park.

Alongside Bailey, Villa are also without midfielder Morgan Sanson who is set to be sidelined for a month after he picked up a hamstring injury in the Carabao Cup match against Chelsea [BBC Sport].
