Arsenal writer Charles Watts has said ‘you can’t rule anything out’ after Jack Wilshere returned to train with the club earlier this week.

Wilshere came through the academy system with the Gunners and once looked set to become one of the world’s best players, only for injuries to curtail his career.

After stints at Bournemouth and West Ham United, the Englishman found himself without a club at the start of the season. In an attempt to keep fit, and while doing his coaching badges, Mikel Arteta announced the 29-year-old would be training with his former team for a while.

Speaking about the player on his YouTube channel, Watts reminded viewers of when Mathieu Flamini trained with the club before earning himself a new contract.

He said: “You can’t rule anything out, can you? Who knows, Mathieu Flamini was training at Arsenal a few years back, ended up getting himself a move thanks to some really impressive performances at London Colney.

“So, who knows, Jack might do the same. But that is not what the plan is from the start.

“And apparently Arsenal are saying it as well that predominantly, he is going to be with the Under-23s as well.”

TIF Thoughts on Jack Wilshere and Arsenal…

It certainly doesn’t seem like there’s a huge opportunity for Wilshere to get another shot at his Arsenal career, but as Watts says, you never know.

In the past, the Gunners have given short-term contracts to former players such as Sol Campbell, Jens Lehmann, Thierry Henry and Flamini.

Should Arsenal offer Jack Wilshere a contract?

Yes

No

No

Henry’s return even led to one of the club’s most iconic moments of the Emirates era, while Flamini also claimed a special brace in a north London derby.

When something so similar has happened before, perhaps you shouldn’t quite rule out this move just yet.
