Valerien Ismael will not be losing sleep over West Brom’s failure to sign Daryl Dike in the summer, former Baggies midfielder Carlton Palmer has told This Is Futbol.

Signing a striker was an objective for Ismael during the last transfer window and Dike, whom he managed briefly while at Barnsley, was thought to be on his list.

However, according to journalist Joe Masi, speaking on the Baggies Broadcast, West Brom were priced out of a move after Orlando City slapped an £18m price tag on Dike’s head.

For Palmer, though, it is not something Ismael will be dwelling on. He told TIF:

“Ismael won’t be losing sleep over it because he knows he’s not in the market for £18m players – that’s just not the case. Ismael knew what he got with the job at West Brom.”

When you look at Dike’s record last season, of course the USA international could have been a good signing for the Baggies. In 19 Championship appearances, he scored nine goals as he helped Barnsley to reach the play-offs.

However, West Brom are flying in English football’s second tier right now and did manage to strengthen up front when they brought in Jordan Hugill on loan from Norwich City, so failing to sign Dike has not proven costly.
