Fulham fans have been reacting to claims that have emerged regarding young prospect Fabio Carvalho.
The 19-year-old midfielder has certainly left his mark on the Fulham side this season, scoring 3 goals in his 5 Championship appearances before his injury, this after leaving an incredible mark on the club’s academy side when he scored 11 goals in 15 appearances in all competitions for the U23 side last campaign.
His talents are appreciated far beyond the walls of Craven Cottage though, with a number of clubs showing an interest in picking him up next summer when his contract expires.
Journalist Peter Rutzler did note a few months ago that things were looking positive when it came to him signing a new deal that would keep him at the club, but things appear to have changed on that front, with Rutzler now claiming that “Carvalho’s future at Fulham remains unresolved and that is unlikely to change before January, when he hopes to switch agents.”
January is also significant because it is at that time he will be free to talk to clubs abroad and sign a pre-contract deal, and when the news reached Fulham fans on Twitter, there was much despondency amongst a number of supporters that they could be set to lose a player who has been dubbed by some as a ‘teen sensation’:
“This is a very unhealthy trend of young talented players not signing new contracts. Do we not value them enough? What’s the point of having a youth system if we don’t progress the best young players? So do we refuse to play them unless they sign?”
Will Fulham win promotion this season?
Yes
No
Having already lost promising youngsters Patrick Roberts, Ryan Sessegnon and Harvey Elliott over the years, Carvalho could well become the latest name from the Motspur Park conveyor belt to leave the club.
