A number of Derby County supporters have been left worried after seeing current manager Wayne Rooney linked with the Newcastle United job.
A number of names – ranging from Diego Simeone to Eddie Howe – have been reported as potential replacements if Steve Bruce ever gets the sack from the new Magpies owners.
Now, Rooney has become the latest man to be connected to the role. Indeed, as reported by SPORTbible, a reliable source close to both the new board and the former Manchester United striker claimed that he is being lined up for the managerial position.
Naturally, the news made its way onto social media, and it didn’t take long before some concerned Derby supporters were expressing their opinions.
Here’s what these Derby County fans said…
“No way, that would be the nail in the coffin if Wayne left us!! Don’t want to even imagine it!!”
As things stand, Derby sit bottom of the Championship table on just three points. However, they have won three games, drawn a further six, and lost just three so far this season.
Of course, their lowly league position is owed to the fact that they were hit with a 12-point penalty for going into administration.
Should Wayne Rooney join Newcastle as manager?
Yes
No
Taking all that into account, Rooney has done a pretty commendable job at Derby. It’s easy to understand why these fans are so concerned to see him linked with a move to the Premier League.
