Former Sheffield Wednesday player Carlton Palmer believes that Sam Hutchinson gives everything for the club but sees him as more of a League One player than a Championship one.

The 32-year-old is in his second spell at Hillsborough after re-signing for the Owls in January this year.

Offering versatility to his game, Hutchinson can play anywhere across the defence and has can also operate further forward in midfield, where he has played as a defensive midfielder, central-midfielder and also as a right-midfielder.

Whilst recognising he gives everything for Sheffield Wednesday, Palmer sees Hutchinson as a League One player, telling This is Futbol: “I know Sam is a fans’ favourite, he’s 110% and he gives everything for Sheffield Wednesday.

“He was let go from the club and then brought back because of his versatility. In this league, he can play a variety of different positions.

“For me I think he’s a player that you have to help get you out of this division. I don’t see him as one that you sign up for three or four years and he finishes his career there, you know he struggled in the Championship.”

Hutchinson is vastly experienced in the game and has made over 200 appearances throughout his career, with Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, Vitesse Arnhem, Sheffield Wednesday and Pafos FC.

After last season’s heartache of being relegated from the Championship, Sheffield Wednesday and Darren Moore will be hoping that they have assembled a side that can help them challenge for an immediate return to English football’s second division.
