Many Celtic fans have been left displeased after former player Jeremie Frimpong had some interesting things to say about his departure from the club.

Last January, the 20-year-old defender swapped Scotland for Germany as he joined Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen. Now, with both teams in the same Europa League group, a return to his former side is on the cards for the right-back.

With this in mind, Frimpong recently spoke to the press about his exit, claiming that he hadn’t planned on leaving the Bhoys.

Will Celtic make it out of their Europa League group?

As quoted in the Daily Record, he said: “I was not looking to leave Celtic, when the chance came to join Leverkusen it was not something I was actively looking to do.

“I was happy with my teammates, happy with the fans.”

He added: “It was a shock – but the chance to play for one of the best clubs in Germany was not something I could turn down.”

The quotes were shared by Celtic1967.com on Twitter and caught the eye of a number of the club’s supporters.

What exactly did these Celtic fans say?

“Utter lies.”

“Money talks, son!”
“He’s a wee liar.”
“Actions speak louder than words, anyway he’s past news, let’s concentrate on the team we have.”

The quotes may anger the Celtic faithful, as when Frimpong was sold, then-manager Neil Lennon claimed that the defender had ‘made it clear’ he wanted to leave.

For the 20-year-old, at least, it looks as if the move is showing signs of being a successful one. Indeed, the right-back has already claimed four assists in eight appearances across all competitions this season.
