Former Rangers star Michael Ball insists that striker Alfredo Morelos must earn a move away from the club if he is serious about leaving.

Morelos was unable to seal a transfer away from the club in the summer transfer window.

He has since gone on the record about his inability to move, although he remains hopeful of eventually earning a switch to a new club.

Morelos has been linked with Portuguese club Porto, but Ball insists that he is not likely to move if he cannot continue to be prolific at the highest level.

The Colombia international has made a total of 190 appearances for Rangers, scoring 97 goals and laying on 44 assists; last season, he scored 11 times in 25 top-flight games as Steven Gerrard’s side won the title in a remarkable season.

Speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol, he said: “If he wants a move, there’s rumours of Porto, he’s got to show it week in and week out.

“He’s got to show the performances by banging the goals in, sorting out his disciplinary actions, and turning up in the big games. That’s what’s going to earn him a move. That’s what Rangers are going to demand a fee for.

“The reason he’s still there is nobody’s willing to pay for him because of the question marks over his head, it’s as simple as that.”

Morelos’ current contract does not expire until 2023 and he is valued at £10.8m by Transfermarkt.
