The Celtic Way journalist Anthony Haggerty has told This is Futbol that he hopes that the departed striker Odsonne Edouard is remembered as a “hero” at Celtic despite his summer exit.

The striker left the Scottish giants in the final week of the transfer window to join Premier League side Crystal Palace.

Patrick Vieira’s side have paid £14m to bring the Frenchman to Selhurst Park after a prolific spell north of the border.

In total, Edouard made 179 appearances for Celtic and scored 86 goals, while also registering 39 assists.

Edouard also had a bulging trophy cabinet, winning three Scottish Premiership titles, three Scottish Cups, and three Scottish League Cups. Per Transfermarkt, he was also awarded the club’s Player of the Year award in 2019/20.

Haggerty hopes that he is remembered for all of the fine performances he has put in for Celtic, rather than being seen as a villain for leaving the club.

He said: “He’s given the supporters some wonderful moments and some real highs, so it would be a shame for him to go out as the villain of the piece, because he has been a bit of a hero the last few years.”

Edouard is likely to make his Palace debut after the international break, against Tottenham Hotspur.
