Celtic fans have been reacting to news surrounding their summer signing Giorgos Giakoumakis following footage that the club released.
The forward comes to Celtic Park off the back of a very successful season with Dutch side VVV-Venlo, where he scored 29 goals in 33 games in all competitions – which was enough to catch the eyes of Ange Postecoglou and the club, who then signed him up for a reported £2.5m.
Now that the transfer has been completed, there’s just the matter of giving him a shirt number to wear, and the club recently announced that he will take on the number 7 shirt for this season.
It’s a number that has been worn by some iconic players in Celtic’s history, as well as a couple that had less than stellar careers, but it’s a decision that has generated a lot of talk amongst fans on social media, as they flocked to the club’s announcement to give their take on it, with a rather mixed response:
“That is a big, big, BIG responsibility taking that number. Hopefully the big man’s up to the task.”
Will Celtic win the league this season?
Yes
No
There certainly is a lot of history associated with the number, and it will be interesting to see if he’s able to live up to the standards of some of the players that have donned it in the past or if it will be too much for him to handle.
