West Ham United insider @ExWHUemployee has been sharing his thoughts and some behind-the-scenes details on Hammers defender Kurt Zouma following his arrival at the club.

This comes after Ex co-hosted a recent episode of The West Ham Way Podcast, where he spoke about a range of topics concerning the east London club, including Zouna’s performance at the weekend against Manchester United.

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

On the subject of the Frenchman, who joined the Hammers last month from fellow Premier League side Chelsea and played the entirety of the club’s recent 2-1 defeat against Manchester United, Ex had this to say about the 26-year-old.

He said: “Zouma was superb [against Man United], honestly, I thought that was such a good performance from him and it really excites me how well he played – 26 years of age, French international, Champions League and league winner.

“I thought he’s settled in really well. I’ve asked around a little bit to see what the new guys are like and all of them seem to be quite popular, but he’s the one that everyone says, ‘oh what a lad, he’s so funny, he’s a top bloke’, so I think he’s got the right personality for the team.

“I just thought he was brilliant. I thought he was everywhere in the air, intercepting, strong. Bearing in mind he was playing against [Cristiano] Ronaldo, I thought he was brilliant.”

TIF Thoughts on Ex’s comments on Zouma…

Taking into account how Zouma managed to earn himself an overall match rating of 7.1/10 for his performance against the Red Devils, making him West Ham’s highest-rated defender on the day according to WhoScored, while making the most interceptions (2) and clearances (12) of any West Ham player on the day, it’s easy to see why Ex was so happy with his display, despite the disappointing result.

As well as his latest performance on the pitch, it’s great to hear that the defender is apparently a very popular member of the squad despite only being at the club for a number of weeks.

In addition to this, with Zouma himself recently saying that he is settling into the club “very well” and feels like he’s been there “for many years”, this paints a clear picture of what his situation is in east London.

Moving forward, if Zouma can continue to put in good performances for the team on the pitch, he could well be seen as one of West Ham’s most important players of the season.
