West Ham United insider @ExWHUemployee has been sharing some details regarding the situation surrounding Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard and the possibility of him joining the Hammers.
This comes after Ex co-hosted a recent episode of The West Ham Way Podcast where he spoke about a range of topics concerning David Moyes’ team.
On the subject of Lingard, who was heavily linked with a move to The London Stadium during the recent summer transfer window, Ex had this to say on the situation.
He said: “I think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer maybe didn’t give him like ‘you’re going to be a starter’, because obviously he hasn’t been, but said to him ‘you’re going to feature enough this year to make it worth your while – if you stay, you’ll be involved in games, probably the cup games, the Champions League games, if there’s a couple of injuries’, and I think that was enough to convince him.
“Now, whilst he loved his time at [West Ham], I said right at the very start, he wasn’t going to join West Ham, he really didn’t want to and then there was a little period where he kind of started to waver a little bit and think, ‘okay, I might do it’.
“So, he spoke to West Ham, and I think it just turned out that in order to come, he would have wanted a lot of money to make it worth his while and to be able to convince his dad, but I wouldn’t rule out him never playing for West Ham again.”
TIF Thoughts on Ex’s comments on Lingard…
Given how Lingard managed to score nine goals and provide five assists in the 16 appearances he made for the Hammers during his loan spell last season across all competitions, it’s understandable that the east London club were linked with a move to sign him again throughout the recent summer transfer window.

In our view, if Lingard isn’t getting regular game time at Old Trafford by the time the January transfer window comes around, then West Ham should definitely consider exploring the possibility of signing him.
However, if a potential January move for Lingard would not be financially viable for the club, then perhaps it would be the best option for the club to move on from the Englishman altogether, especially since they managed to sign Nikola Vlasic during the summer and may not need to add another attacker to their squad.
